Sweet, Sweet, Yummy Rotee or Roti

Here is another item we couldn’t stay away from while in Thailand.   M loves this don’t you, M!  🙂

Rotee or Roti is basically fried dough with a lot of trimmings/toppings to meet your taste.  The dough gets slapped around on the metal surface and then dropped in a lot of hot oil.

Yes, of course, I have pictures.

That’s condensed milk.  The yellow bucket next to the eggs is butter.

We usually get the sweet rotee.  It’s sweet alright as it has ample condensed milk AND sugar! This is one of those foods that reminds me of my childhood.  I remember having this for breakfast  as a child (but without the condensed milk).   It’s crispy and doughy (is that a word?) at the same time (and greasy).  Definitely sweet.  Good stuff to consume with pleasure every once in a while.  I wouldn’t recommend it ever day as it may quickly clog up your arteries.

The sweet rotee you could get as low as 7B.  However, in the touristy areas, the going rate is a hefty 10B!

So next time you’re in Thailand, try the Rotee.  I bet you’ll like it.

More food posts on the way!

Cheers from Thailand,

A

Oh A, how can one every say no to roti? No matter the time of day, it is delicious. Great pictures and I look forward to eating our way through the roti stands of Chiang Mai when I arrive!

This is by far my husband’s favorite dessert from Thailand!!! We have been asking many Thai restaurant owners here to put this on their menu. It will be a bit hit! For now, we settle for the frozen one that we could buy from oriental market here in the US. 🙂
